Creativity.
I come from a family of painters, comic artists, garden designers, folk artists, and woodworkers. I have pursued the language arts as my passion, focusing primarily on fiction. In designing scenario-based eLearning and instructional design, I write realistic narratives populated with life-like characters and dialogue that create an engaging learning experience.
Solutions.
One of the greatest compliments I’ve ever received was “Hazel Foster knows how to get things done.” This came during the spring of the COVID lockdown, halfway through completing a (normally in-person) year-long project. Pivoting to the virtual world provided new challenges to closing out the project and hosting the culminating launch, but I thrive when presented with problems that demand creative solutions. The success of the project and launch were a high point in an otherwise dark moment in human history. Whether it is a small tab interaction or a large simulated eLearning experience, I tackle every project with tenacity and determination.
Feedback.
The collaborative feedback process has been essential to my professional growth and development, from my very first job slinging soft serve ice cream and perfecting the signature swirl to learning how to de-escalate customer disputes in public libraries. In the writing world, critique provides invaluable growth opportunities, and I would go so far as to say critique rather than practice makes perfect. In the instructional design process, collaboration and feedback excite me, whether it be working with SMEs, stakeholders, fellow designers, or the learners themselves.
